    One thing that's unique about Sigma's recent line of "Global Vision" lenses is that every single lens is subjected to exacting, computer-driven optical tests to ensure it meets its specs. Sigma developed their own test system, using the same high-resolution Foveon sensor chip found in their SD1 digital SLR.
