Fun, fantastic, delightful, instructional. The list of superlatives in regard to the Mentor Series Trek to Sedona, AZ is nearly endless. The view even from the hotel was stunning, as were the photographic opportunities in the area. Our mentors Reed Hoffman and Wolfgang Kaehler are without parallel for photo instruction. Vanessa was our staff member, and her assistance and attention to detail were marvelous. They were both excellent with regard to the instruction, advice, and attentiveness for the participants. I also appreciate the sponsorship of Nikon and the chance to try out some new gear. We had an excellent shoot the first day at Red Rock Crossing near Sedona. The second day we had a wonderful opportunity to shoot the Wuptaki Monument, and from there continued on to the Grand Canyon. In spite of some rainy weather, we were able to capture awe inspiring photographs of the canyon, the clouds, and the wildlife in the area. Next day the early birds in the group enjoyed the fun and shooting of a hot air balloon ride. Next our group participated on a tour with the “Pink Jeep” company to the adjacent hills. Again, the photo opportunities in the area were amazing, followed by a sunset shoot near the Sedona airport. Sunday we had an early start to the Gold King Mine and had a photo shoot of the mining equipment, ghost town buildings, animals, as well as instruction on portrait photography with the owner, Don, as the model. Later that day we had a digital review session, which was followed by the presentation of the choice works of the participants in the final slide show. In short, was it worth it? Absolutely! Would I go again? Absolutely. I have felt that the mentor series opportunity has been the most fun and most helpful photographic instruction experience ever.
