Breaking news: Olympus has announced the development of the E-M1 Mark II flagship OM-D product. Able to shoot at up to 18fps in Raw, with autofocus or 60 frames per second at full-res Raw if you don't need autofocus.
The camera will come later this year, the company says, having spent four years in development.
The camera has 121 cross-type AF on-sensor phase detection points, spread over a wider area than its predecessor. It also has a new algorithm that should be better at tracking.
The autofocus system is completely new, the company says. 'Improved in terms of performance, precision and operation.'
'Pro Capture' mode starts shooting full-res images when you half-press the shutter and retains the last 14 shots leading up to you fully depressing the shutter.
A revised EVF runs at 120fps with a reaction time of 6ms.
Higher capacity battery with faster charging.
Grip is more secure to work better with larger lenses.
Dual UHS-II SD slots.
'The core value of Olympus's cameras: 1/3rd lighter, 1/3rd smaller. Add to this image quality, lens technology and image stabilization. Mobility and Reliability, Image Quality and, probably the most important innovation tonight: speed.'
Sensor size is the other point, they say. 'Our system is good at mobility but not at speed. With the new flagship OM-D will exceed the APS-C camera in overall value.'
We'll be updating this story as the event continues.
